Unpacking – Birdcage

1 – Arrival

The Rose is shipped in a plywood flight case in an outer cardboard box. It should be kept upright, however sometimes couriers don’t always follow this instruction.

When it arrives, if anything doesn’t look right please make sure you take photographs and ask the courier to photograph note anything when signing.

Take photos of any damage to the case within 12 hours and send to: simon@enchantedrosehire.co.uk . Failure to do this may mean you are wrongly charged for the repair since I might not be able to claim back from the courier.

2 – Handling

The case is big and heavy at around 26kg. It is recommended that two people carry the case.

There are handles on the sides which make it possible for 1 person to move, but make sre that you follow manual handling rules and stay within your own limits.

Take the flight case to a safe space ready for un-packing.

3 – Opening up – removing the lid

The couriers insist on having an outer cardboard box around the purpose built flight case (trust me, I’ve tried to resist!).

The cardboard box is in two sections; top and bottom. You will need to remove, or lift up the top cardboard layer. To do this, you can remove the tape holding the two sections together.

Find the end of the tape indicated with some yellow or red tape over the end, and peel the tape off carefully.

You can now lift up and remove the cardboard lid.

The Lid of the case is fitted with butterfly catches and “Lift-off Hinges”. They are Hidden behind flaps of the cardboard box covered in yellow tape.

Pull the flaps down and you can access the butterfly catches.

Top operate the hinges, lift the pivoting handle, rotate and pull back.

With the lid nearly as open as far as it will go, lift the case up and you’ll see that the hinges are in 2 parts.

Remove the lid entirely by lifting up and place to one side.

4 – Check and Remove items from the top

The case is split into 2 parts – Top and bottom.

The top part encased in the lid has cables, petals, control unit, wooden stand and some paperwork. (although this might be slightly different based on your individual requirements)

Remove all the items from the top, check for any signs of damage and set aside.

If there is any signs of damage (or something missing), make sure to notify us asap.

With the items removed, you’ll be left with one end of a cable up from the bottom. Don’t try and remove this; it’s attached at the other end!

5 – Remove Packaging

Remove this next layer of foam and set aside.

Next you’ll find more foam. This is structural and keeps the dome supported.

They will feel tight, but you can lift them straight up and set aside.

6 – Removing the “Birdcage”

You should now see something like this.

Note the strap which comes from the bottom of the case, up through the loop on top and back down.

Undo the strap by squeezing one side of the buckle and releasing the loose end.

Pull the tail end all the way through the buckle.

Pass the buckle through the hoop on the top of the “bird cage” making sure to not scratch the paint work.

The “Birdcage” is now free and can be lifted out.

This is a 2 person job…

  • Person one lifts the “Birdcage” slowly
  • Person two is to guide the foam within the “Birdcage” to make sure no damage occurs to the rose head.

The Birdcage is intentionally tight in the flight case, but it will slide out with some gentle persuasion.

7 – Remove the Rose-head foam support

Removing the foam which supports the Rose-head. This can be tricky, it’s best to pivot it down before lifting it out.

Check out the video to show the best way.

Now you’ve lifted out the support, set the it aside.

8 – Remove the Rose

You should now see the rose base (and head).

The base should have a strap diagonally across it.

Locate the buckle, and squeeze one side to release the tail end.

Pull the tail end all the way through the buckle.

Lift the rose out of the case by the base.

Stand the rose upright with the rose stem vertical. Never put the rose base on it’s side.

Thank you for reading to the end. I hope you have a great show!
